Bokeh

Bokeh (2021)

Bokeh was the debut album of my solo project. I can summarize this as ensembling random ideas together but not having the experience to know what sounds fine, what needs to improve and what doesn't work in any way.

Still, I embrace the idea of not being perfectionist and putting my work out there for the world to see. Thanks to that mindset, I moved to other projects that have improved over this experience.

Synths and virtual instruments:

I recall using many Spitfire Audio LABS pads for ambience and Logic's built-in instruments for piano, sax and lead synth stuff.

Drums

The drums were MIDI-programmed with GGD's P4 kit. In order to add some customization, I blended the P4 kick and snare with some of the Logic Pro's built-in drums.

For mixing, I copy-pasted some settings from a Nolly tutorial on drums mixing.

Bass

The bass used for the recording was a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass.

The DI was run in parallel through an Ampeg SVT preset in Logic Pro's built-in bass amp plugin and the Darkglass plugin by Neural DSP with the B7k ultra model. In parts where an extra layer of distortion was needed, I added a third layer with the Vintage Ultra model.

In terms of mixing, the raw tone was so good that I only used an equalizer to remove unnecessary frequencies.

Guitars

The guitar used was an LTD H3-1000 and all the tones come from NeuralDSP Archetype:Plini plugin.

Rhythmic parts were double-tracked and run through the crunch amp. For intense sections, the same performance was reamped through the crunch and the high-gain amp. For softer parts, overdrive is turned off and the performance tries to be as soft as possible.

Acoustic guitars were recorded with a Focusrite starter pack microphone pointing at the 12-ish fret.

For the solos, I messed around with different presets until I found one that matched the vibe of the section.

For mixing, I copy-pasted some settings from a Nolly tutorial on guitars mixing.

Other production aspects

I don't remember anything special for the production of this record. I've improved in many areas since this, therefore I don't even think this is worth expanding.

As I said earlier, if you are looking for production details you should probably check more recent works instead of this.
