Heridas de papel

Heridas de papel - Single (2021, unpublished)

Time after the Ataraxia album, Recuerdos con Q contacted me again to produce a single. This time, we worked remotely: I produced the entire instrumental, they sent me the vocal performance and I mixed it all together.

Here are some insights on the production process.

Virtual instruments:

All the piano, strings and brass sounds are MIDI programmed with Logic Pro's built-in instruments.

Drums

The drums were quickly programmed with Logic Pro's drummer and then remapped to GGD's P4 kit.

For mixing, I copy-pasted some settings from a Nolly tutorial on drums mixing.

Bass

The bass used for the recording was a Marcus Miller Jazz Bass.

The DI was run through an Ampeg SVT preset in Logic Pro's built-in bass amp plugin.

Guitars

The guitar used was an LTD H3-1000 and all the tones come from NeuralDSP Archetype:Plini plugin.

Rhythmic parts were double-tracked and run through the crunch amp. For clean parts, overdrive is turned off and the performance tries to be as soft as possible; for energetic parts, overdrive is turned on.

Vocals

I wasn't in charge of the vocal recordings and the band only sent me one single vocal performance which was completely out of tune and mostly off beat too. As with the previous record, the band insisted in not using any kind of correction tool; therefore, I didn't edit it in the slightest... Maybe that's the reason this song hasn't been published, they have realized how awful they are...

Double vocals were created with iZotope Vocal Doubler. They are way quieter than the main vocal so they are barely noticeable.

Mixing and mastering

There is nothing special in the mixing of this song that hasn't been covered in its specific section...
